Mid Point

This is a clip of the mid point of my music video. I shot a lot of footage and a lot of it I couldn't really use, however this small section was the better part of my footage. I have put it along side the music piece so that it is clear to see the pace of the music and how they are parallel with each other.

I still have a lot of work to do and there is a lot of aspects in the animation I need to improve on, however with more time and effort I should be able to perfect it.

Music Videos In Relation To Mulveys Theory

Laura Mulvey is a British feminist film theorist in who has believes in a theory called the 'male gaze'. The 'male gaze' is the theory that the directors of films objectify woman in two ways; "voyeuristic" which is seeing women as sex symbols and "fetishistic" which is seeing women as attentions seeking and dramatic.
In terms of music videos it is dependent on the band and the type of music video. Ofcourse if the band is performance based and all male then it can be hard to objectify women. In this situation if the band were surrounded by screaming girls or women is would be objectifying women in a "fetishistic" manner.

In this Justin Bieber video for Never Say Never the camera focuses on hundreds screaming girls all screaming for the attention of Justin Bieber. I believe this is objectifying the young girls in a way that they look silly and obsessed. There are very few young boys in the video or in the audience of the concert.

This video for 50 cent's P.I.M.P clearly proves Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory. This video is a prime example of the "voyeuristic" type of 'male gaze'. The women are seen as prostitutes, dressed in almost nothing. The women dance around the men and treat them like Gods. The men are dressed in expensive suits with lots of expensive jewelry on and the women are dressed the complete opposite. This represents women as cheap and this is what Laura Mulvey is trying to portray in her theory. In the modern world the industry has been built in a way to always see men as the better sex, the more dominant, the more powerful and the more respected.

Digi-Pack, second draft

In this version of my digi-pack I have changed the layout slightly. This is because I had to alter some of the text and add in some copyright material. I had to swap some images about to make sure the text was still visible. I changed the font of the track listing so that not all the text was the same and so that all the text was clear and professional. I had to think carefully about my target audience when making my digi-pack cover because although the images are of flowers, which connotes femininity, the filter is quite dark and gives a burnt affect which balances out the masculinity, also the text is quite masculine as well.

Card Cut Outs

I am preparing my card cut outs for the music video, I am going to get images of the band from their websites. I will then manipulate them in Photoshop carefully to make it seem like they are performing. This will be a lot of hard work and will take a fair bit of time. However I think if I try to do as much filming as possible with each character and cut the video clips together. I am going to take my main inspiration for movements from the following video:

My idea

Since creating my ancilary task my idea has slightly changed and developed. I have the idea of using frame by frame animation to create my video. I will use small cardboard cut out versions of the band to perform in my video. This is because I have some difficulty relying on people to perform in my video and it is a very hard task to get everyone together at the same time. This way I can get it completed to my standards and I don't have to worry about the amount of footage because I can always shoot it again and there won't be any change to prevent good continuity.
My idea came from a variety of videos such as 'Animal' by Neon Trees and an animation piece called 'Her Morning Elegance'. From the Neon Trees video when the band are in their van there are lots of cuts, an although this isn't stop frame I still like the way the director has done this to show progression in time. They use short snipets of film, with the band in different positions to show the bands silliness and happiness which represents the song. This allows the audience to feel more at one with the band as they feel they are connected with them. Also I think this allows the band to feel more engsged in the ifro with the consistent timing and the relation between the music video and the beat and lyrics of the songs.
